Scott County vs. Adair County

The perrenial powerhouse of Scott County from the 11th region faced the Indians of Adair County from the 5th region in the first quarterfinal game on Friday. Buckets were hard to come by in the first quarter by both teams. Matt Walls (11th region player of the year) scored Scott's first 5 points, Scott clinged to a 10-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals 3/4 court trap defense caused the Indians to panic and struggle to get the ball up the floor, Adair also had a tough time getting good looks at the basket in the first half of play. Adair County was doing a good job in the first half of keeping Matt Walls and Bud Mackey from taking over the game. Scott County was bothered with foul trouble the whole game, Walls had 3 fouls by halftime and Mackey had 2, the team fouls at the half were Scott- 10 and Adair- 6. The cardinals still were able to keep the lead with a score of 30-18 at halftime. Adair County kept the game close the whole 3rd quarter but Scott County had a +9 rebounding edge over them, this was caused by Adair being outsized at every position and not as much athleticism. Adair had its chance to put together a comeback when Bud Mackey ( the #48 player in the nation of class of 08) fouled out with 5:57 left in the 4th quarter but they werent able to capitalize on Scott's vulnerability. Adair was led by Nick Fudge, Darren Ballou, Chris Lewis who combined for 43 pts, and Scott County by Matt Walls with 26 pts and Jordan Lee with 9 pts and 8 rebounds. At the end Adair didnt have enough offensive firepower to top the Cardinals in a final score of 68-53. Scott County will move on to play Holmes in the first semifinal game on Saturday.
